Decent location with some restaurants etc not too far away. The room was clean...a bit outdated but was fine. The pool and hot tub we're great. Good temp on the hot tub.
Though the facility is a little rundown and Jenny at the front desk wasn't the most polite service upon arrival... we were won over. Martina, who runs the breakfast room was the best service I've seen in a long time. She was wonderful with my children and they were all sad to have to leave at check out because they liked her so much. Steve in maintenance was also a very bright light in customer service. He found my middle daughters bracelet and remembered we were the only ones at the pool most of the day and brought it back to us. Our phones didn't work, the elevator was broken, the television reception was poor but that was quickly forgot with the excellent customer service.
Fairly standard Holiday Inn Express. Solid place to stay. Appreciated being able to park my motorcycle under the canopy by the door.
I am very frustrated the the GM of this Holiday Inn Express. I have been staying there nearly every weekend since early/mid April to visit my sick daughter and when I finally earned enough reward points to get a "free" night, I was told that they weren't honoring any rewards because they only wanted full paying customers for this weekend. I HAVE BEEN a full paying customer for at least 7 weekends. This demonstrates poor customer service and the inability to realize that this poor decision cost Holiday Inn Express in Valparaiso to lose a good customer forever. Bad choice Holiday Inn Express Valparaiso! I'll be taking my business elsewhere from her on out- as will my entire extended family.
We always stay here when we come home to visit our families. Martina has been working in the dining room for the breakfast for a long, long time. She does a fantastic job, takes good care of the guests, and is always very cheerful and helpful. She makes a real difference. I gave only 4 stars instead of 5 because they're not pet-friendly. They need to better align themselves with the needs of their guests.
